1) I think I did better on question 5 than the rest as I knew the correct camera shot and the effect that and the mis-en-scene has on the audience well.

2) I think I did not do as good in question 3 because I did not write 3 full paragraphs and did not know what to write for them

3) Analyse the heat advert featuring Beyonce to show how connotations are created to communicate meaning (12 marks)

In the heat advert featuring Beyonce, connotations are created to communicate meaning such as her costume. In the advert, Beyonce wears a low-cut red dress. The colour red has connotations to confidence and seductiveness to make Beyonce stand out. Beyonce is also standing in a provocative pose catching the audience's attention and making them interested in the perfume advert. The image has connotations of money and wealth as the costume appears to be luxurious and expensive, maybe of a brand label, linking back to Beyonce looking eye-catching as the dress adds to the alluring ambience Beyonce creates.

Connotations are also used to create meaning using verbal codes. The product name 'Heat' has connotations toward romance and intensity, adding to the meaning of the dress, the name 'Heat' for the perfume creates a sense of attraction and most importantly interest in the product. In the advert, the phrase 'catch the fever' is used as it is snappy and makes the perfume sound irresistible and tempting. In addition, the mention of this being the 'first fragrance by Beyonce' captivates Beyonce's fans and music listeners and suggests a sensational new product from a celebrity who is very well known, linking back to the idea of the advert attracting the audience a lot.

Lastly, connotations are used to create meaning using design and layout. The first thing you see when looking at the advert is the direct adress of the main image from the advert being Beyonce making intense eye contact with the audience, this creates a large sense of tension and seduction. The advert is mainly dominated by the central image of Beyonce which is very provocative and designed to create an illicit and stong reaction from the audience.
