Advertising and Marketing:
Skittles advert analysis
1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this.
Background - the bright colours of the rainbow made of skittles make them stand out and also represent the colours of the skittles with connotations of childhood and joy.
Logo - Big and large so its easily recognisable and the name comes from the sports game of the same name, named as such for the resemblance of the sweet to items used in the game.
Slogan - The slogan 'taste the rainbow' is shown at the bottom of the picture and it indicates that eating the skittles have a lot of flavours like a rainbow has a lot of colours.
2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?
